Are you the type of person who likes to treat yourself to a nice, rich beverage during these colder days and evenings? Hot Cocoa and Eggnog are two popular choices. But I have something different to share with you. Maybe you have heard of it or maybe you haven't. So allow me to enlighten you.
Golden milk is simply amazing! It has a richness to it that is hard to resist. To top it off, the blend of spices is phenomenal! Fresh turmeric, ginger, cinnamon, cardamom, and cloves make up this beautiful blend. In an unexpected way, golden milk kind of reminds me of Eggnog. Go figure!
One of the really special ingredients in Golden Milk is turmeric. This mega anti-inflammatory root is a valuable tool in benefiting your body's health. Turmeric is known to treat a variety of conditions successfully and it will forever be apart of my daily regimen. To learn more about turmeric, read my post on its health benefits.
Golden Milk is extremely easy to make. Everything is done right there on your stove top in a small saucepan. You can enjoy it warm or cold. Honestly, both ways are outstanding. Store it in an airtight jar or container and enjoy it straight from the refrigerator or heat it up on the stove top and sip it warm. Cozy up next to a fire with your mug full of golden goodness. You are going to love it!
2 cups coconut milk (homemade or canned)
1 inch knob fresh turmeric, peeled and sliced
1 inch knob fresh ginger, peeled and sliced
2 cinnamon sticks
2 cardamom pods, crushed (optional)
3 whole cloves (optional)
1/4 tsp whole black peppercorns
1 tsp maple syrup (or to taste)
1. Put all of the ingredients into a small saucepan. Heat over medium-high heat until just about to boil. Turn the heat down to medium-low and simmer uncovered for 10 minutes.
2. Remove the saucepan from heat, strain the milk from the spices, and pour into two mugs to enjoy while hot. Add a pinch of ground cinnamon in each mug (optional).
3. To enjoy for later use, pour the contents into an airtight glass container or jar, and place in your refrigerator for up to a week. Contents may separate in the refrigerator which is completely normal. You can heat it up when needed over stove top or drink cold. Either way is delicious!
