This has got to be one of my favorite smoothie combinations, especially in the warmer months. But I do drink it all year, despite the weather, because it contains many beneficial ingredients and nutrients for optimal digestive health. Two of the standouts are fennel and ginger. If you are new to the world of fennel, you are in for a treat! The taste is reminiscent of licorice and anise. It is packed with Vitamin C and a great source of fiber. Fennel contains a volatile oil that have anti-inflammatory properties that relax contracted intestinal muscles and the volatile oil also stimulates bile for better digestion. Ginger is also known to soothe the intestinal tract and reduce inflammation. Ginger also stimulates the body to release the proper enzymes that break down food, making it easier for the nutrients to be absorbed.
Parsley is another powerful ingredient used in this smoothie. Parsley is often thought of as more of a garnish rather than a nutrient rich food. But parsley is known as a potent disease fighting spice. It also has a high enzyme content so it promotes digestive activity. Pineapple also has a special enzyme to offer called bromelain. Bromelain is known to relieve stomach aches, diarrhea, and heartburn as well as helping the digestive system breakdown and absorb proteins.
Don't let the green color fool you. This powerful combination of ingredients come together in a perfect way to bring you a delicious and unique taste as well as nourishing your body in a cleansing way. This recipe makes one large smoothie or two smaller smoothies.
